Fostering Positive Attitudes
On August 2, the School of Health Related Professions presented awards for excellence and scholarship to the graduates of its Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program.
EOF is a state and university sponsored effort that provides educational opportunities for low-income New Jersey residents who are motivated and demonstrate potential to succeed in college but who may have been denied admission due to the lack of access to a quality educational experience. In the six-week summer program, nine recent high school graduates got the opportunity to participate in small group instruction, tutoring, counseling, and motivational workshops. They also strengthened their skills in the areas of anatomy/physiology, mathematics, chemistry and writing.
Event keynote speaker Walter Fortson—a former prison inmate who enrolled at Rutgers University where he became an honors student and was named a 2012 Truman Scholar—stressed the importance of an individual’s attitude as a key to success.
