| AAS Degree Option
Applicants to the AAS Option of the Respiratory Therapy Program – South must hold a high school diploma or GED certificate and meet all admission requirements of the participating community college to which they apply. Because enrollment in the program is limited, admission to the professional course sequence at UMDNJ-SHRP is competitive. To be eligible for the professional course sequence, a student must complete at least 32 credits of general education and science course work while maintaining a C+ or better average (GPA of at least a 2.75). GPAs are calculated based on ALL pre-professional coursework completed. Multiple attempts at courses are counted into the overall GPA for our standards. The top candidates are selected to interview for the program. In addition, matriculants must complete certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers before starting their respiratory care courses. Applicants should be aware of all of the prerequesite requirements of their home community college - some do require a minimum of 24 -30 credits taken at their institution for admission into the joint program. Appicants MUST obtain an admissions packet directly from the program. Applicaions must be returned with all required materials directly to the program in order to be considered for acceptance. Students applying to the joint degree option of the program do not pay an application fee.
Second Bachelor Degree Option
Applicants to Second Bachelors Option of the Program must possess a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited US institution. In addition to their bachelor degree, students must have completed Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology, and Chemistry at the college level. A maximum of five (5) second bachelors degree students are accepted each year. Students are ranked by science GPA and overall GPA. Interviews are granted to those meeting the minimum requirement of a 2.75 minimum science GPA and 2.5 overall GPA. Appicants MUST obtain an admissions packet directly from the program. Applicaions must be returned with all required materials directly to the program in order to be considered for acceptance. Students applying to the second bachelor option of the program will be assessed a $75.00 application fee at the time of acceptance.
All candidates must be able to meet the Essential Technical and Professional Standards as described in the Respiratory Therapy Program – South Policies and Procedure manual.
