Welcome to SHRP's Marratech information page! Marratech is an online collaboration tool that allows users to have live web-conferences. All you need is a computer that meets the minimum requirements, a broadband internet connection (eg. DSL, cable modem...) and a headset (with a built-in microphone) . You can also use a webcam to be seen by other participants, but this is optional (unless you are told otherwise by your instructor).
It is very important that you use a headset (pictured to the left) with Marratech and NOT your external PC speakers. You can also use basic headphones (such as those from an MP3 player) if your webcam has a built-in microphone. But please note that external PC speakers (like the ones pictured to the right or ones that are built into a laptop) will cause echo for all other participants.
Getting Started
When you are ready to begin you must install Marratech and then login to the "meeting room." There are two options to do this:
OPTION 1: Click the link that was sent to you by your instructor. This requires Java already be installed on your computer to work. After you click the link you should choose to Run or Open the file, if prompted. This will install Marratech, if you don't already have it, and then automatically take you to the "meeting room."
~ or ~
OPTION 2: If the above option does not work, you can manually download and install Marratech. After it is installed, you should run Marratech and paste the following URL into Marratech's Address Bar (not your web browser):
http://www.anjvideoportal.net:8000
You can then enter one of the Public "meeting rooms" or use Login info that was provided to by your instructor, to see a list of Private meeting rooms.
2. Save the file to your computer and then run it. Follow all prompts to install the software.
3. Once installed, you can launch it by clicking on the Marratech icon. In Windows, you can click the "Start" button, followed by "Programs," and then locate the icon from there.
4. The first time Marratech starts, it takes you through the Setup Wizard. If you have your microphone and webcam already installed, it will allow you to test and configure them.
5. You will notice Marratech has an address bar toward the top. Copy and paste the following URL into Marratech (not your web browser) and then press Enter:
http://www.anjvideoportal.net:8000
6. It is recommended that you make this page your homepage so that you don't have to copy paste the previous URL everytime you want to use Marratech. To make it your homepage click Tools on the menu bar, followed by Options. Next click the Viewer tab, located at the top, and then the Use Current Page button. Finally choose At Startup, Show:Home Page and click OK.
7. If your meeting is in one of the Public meeting rooms that is already listed, click it to enter. If your meeting is in a Private room, you will have to Login by entering a Username and Password that was provided to you. After logging in you should see your room listed. Click your room to enter.
Note: The name of your meeting room should have been provided to you by your instructor, as well as any login information. Contact your instructor if you don't have this info.

Troubleshooting Tips
Username/Passwords
If you are a STUDENT, you need to contact your instructor for the username/password.
If you are a FACULTY member and need your own Marratech account, please click here. If the username/password that you provided your students no longer works, please contact Verizon at 973-497-9765 M-F during normal business hours.
Vista:
If you are having trouble running Marratech on a computer that has Microsoft Vista installed please go here to see how to make it compatible: http://www.marratech.co.uk/documents/vista.html
USB:
We recommend connecting all USB devices to a USB 2.0 computer. The older USB 1.1 will often cause bad sound / or video quality as it did not have enough bandwidth or power to drive audio and video and other equipment (scanners, printers, hard disks, etc) at the same time.
Video:
There are issues with the latest Logitech Web Cam driver. It will cause your system to use all available ressources when using the camera. Logitech has promised a fix, but until it arrives, here is a link to the latest working driver.
Audio:
Some built-in audio cards (especially on laptops) may leak audio, meaning that the signal coming out from the output goes in the input. This may cause echo. We have seen this on a number of HP laptops. The solution has been a USB headset.
Java:
Java version 1.6 is not compatible with Marratech and will prevent the "Java Quick Start" link from working. It is recommended to use an older version, such as version 1.5 or to launch Marratech using OPTION 2 as described above. Please click here for more information.
Firewall:
In most cases, the Marratech software will work directly through personal and corporate networks. If this is not the case, you may need to configure the following ports in your firewall
TCP ports: 8000 (for http)
UDP ports: 52000 to 52999
These ports should be configured in 'allow-return' mode towards the Marratech Manager server's IP address (151.198.208.101). This means that only meetings originating from within your firewall will be allowed through and only to the originating client. Otherwise, data is not allowed through.
