Entry Level Curriculum: Year One
Pathophysiology I PTDR5130
This course provides information about disease etiology risk
factors pathogenesis prognosis and treatment of
medical illnesses commonly seen by the physical therapist. Topics
covered include normal and abnormal physiology cardiopulmonary
diseases infections gastroenterology urology
endocrine diseases and gynecological disorders. Special emphasis
is placed on describing the medical conditions that can mimic musculoskeletal
problems. The student learns when to refer a client to a physician
and what signs deserve immediate medical attention. Case Studies
emphasize differential diagnosis basic physical therapy intervention
and precautions associated with medical illnesses. (3 credits)
