SHRP POLICY

SUBJECT:  Registration  TITLE:

Withdrawal from School

CODING:      2.7 ADOPTED:    6/05   AMENDED:

I.   PURPOSE

This policy describes conditions for withdrawal from the School. It covers both official withdrawal and unofficial withdrawal.

II.   ACCOUNTABILITY

The student is responsible for adhering to the following policy in consultation with the program director and enrollment services.

III.   POLICY

Official Withdrawal from School

A student wishing to withdraw from the school must consult with the program director, complete a "Withdrawal from Program" form (http://shrp.umdnj.edu/registrar/regist_09_forms.htm), obtain the program director's signature, and file the form with the Office of Enrollment Services. An exit interview may be scheduled. Students with outstanding encumbrances are not entitled to receive, or to have sent on their behalf, transcripts of their academic work until such encumbrances are satisfied.

Unofficial Withdrawal from the School

Unofficial withdrawal from the school results in a grade of "WF" in the course or courses in progress, if the withdrawal occurs prior to the end of the 12 th week of classes (or ¾ of the course). Unofficial withdrawal after the 12 th week of class will result in a grade as determined by the course instructor (see grading system policy # 3.0).

A matriculated student who fails to register for a semester shall be considered to have withdrawn unofficially from the school, unless he/she is on a leave of absence or has filed the form to maintain matriculation.

Before reporting the unofficial withdrawal status/grade to the Office of Enrollment Services in accordance with the unofficial withdrawal policy above, the student shall be notified by a first class and certified letter from the Program Director or his/her designee that he/she will be given an unofficial withdrawal. The student shall be given 3 working days from receipt of the letter to respond in writing. If the student does not respond within the given time, the unofficial withdrawal will be in effect. If the student does respond with an intention to continue in the course/program, the matter shall be referred to the appropriate programmatic Academic Standing Committee for disposition.
