Barbara Manger, MPA,
RHIA, CCS, FAHIMA is the Program Director of the HIM Program and Coding Certificate Program at UMDNJ-SHRP. Prior to July 2007, she was the Chairperson of
the HIM Program at Kean University . She had been a
member of the Kean HIM Program faculty since
1990and came to Kean after having worked in
the field for many years. Immediately prior
to her employment at Kean, Prof. Manger was
the Manager of Medical Records at the Summit
Medical Group in Summit, NJ. She also held various
positions in acute care which included Admissions
Systems Director, DRG Coordinator and Assistant
Director of Medical Records at Clara Maass Medical
Center in Belleville, NJ and Assistant Director
of Medical Records at St. Michaels Medical Center,
Newark, NJ. Professor Manger holds a Masters
in Public Administration from Seton Hall University
and a Bachelor's in Management Science from
St. Peter's College. She also has a post baccalaureate
certification in Health Information Management
from Kean University. Continued involvement
in the New Jersey Health Information Management
Association has always been an important part
of Prof. Manger's professional life. As a member
of NJHIMA since 1978, she has been an active
Executive Board member for several years through
both appointed and elected positions and including
serving as President. For the past two years,
Prof. Manger has held the position of Community
Education Coordinator which coordinates and
promotes the Personal Health Record Community
Education Campaign within New Jersey.
She will leave this role to assume the elected
position of Director/Delegate of NJHIMA (2007-2009).
In recognition of her accomplishments and dedication
to the profession, Prof. Manger was received
the Distinguished Member Award in 2002 and was
granted fellowship status by AHIMA in 2004.
In addition to her responsibilities at the university,
Prof. Manger has been an independent consultant
in the HIM field for both coding and management.
This consultancy enables her to keep in touch
with those working in the profession and to
ensure that classes are current and up to date.
