Program Description
It’s all about choices…choosing the best master’s degree program to help you achieve your career goals.
To accommodate the individual needs of busy professionals, the online Master of Science in Health Sciences (MSHS) Program offers maximum flexibility in both content and delivery. Of the minimum 30 – 33 credits required for the degree, just over one-third represent required interdisciplinary core and research methods courses. A specialization tracks allow students to choose a plan of study to meet their personal needs and interests. The Program culminates in a faculty-guided, self-directed graduate project designed to address a particular health sciences issue or problem of interest to the student.
Therefore, the Master of Science in Health Sciences is designed with two distinct options:
- Option 1 provides allied health professionals a choice of tracks/specializations:
- Option 2 is offered exclusively for baccalaureate prepared students currently enrolled in or graduates of the Certified Medical Representatives (CMR®) Certificate for Healthcare Representatives and Managers: Disease Management.
Unique to the program are other multiple options available for meeting the specialization/elective course requirements. The flexible approaches include:
- Portfolio assessment
- Credit by examination (for selected courses)
- Pre-approved registration at other regionally accredited colleges or universities (including accredited on-line courses)
In addition, students may apply existing post-baccalaureate certificates (equivalent to 9 or more semester hour credits awarded by an accredited educational provider) to fulfill their specialization requirements. The number of certificate credits that can be applied is determined by the applicable faculty. Pre-approved UMDNJ – SHRP certificates that can be applied to fulfill specialization category requirements include Health Care Informatics, Dietetics, Health Professions Education, Aging, Clinical Systems Management, Biopharma Initiative Certificates, Clinical Laboratory Science, and Nurse Midwifery. Also, up to 15 credits of ACE-approved Certified Medical Representatives Institute Disease Management coursework can be applied to the CMR Disease Management Track.
