Doctoral Program in Health Sciences

Mission

The Movement Science Track in the Doctoral Program in Health Sciences, in concert with the mission of UMDNJ and the School of Health Related Professions, prepares physical therapists to be clinician-scientists who are able to contribute to the knowledge of discovery by integrating knowledge from practice into research. The program supports this mission through its faculty who collectively model all aspects of clinical investigation including sound scientific inquiry by hypothesis formation and testing, synthesis and application of existing knowledge, acquisition and interpretation of data, sound scientific writing and the dissemination of knowledge through peer reviewed oral and written formats.

Program

The Movement Science Track in the Doctoral Program in Health Sciences is either a full time or part time program (with a ten year limit) that prepares students to be clinician-scientists. This comprehensive program mentors graduate students in diverse research areas such as outcomes, applied neuroscience for rehabilitation, motor control, motor development and motor learning, development and validation of technology for rehabilitation, complementary therapies for rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. The PhD program has a rich tradition of flexible graduate study using a research based mentoring model and is implemented in our various research laboratories.
