Course Description:
The online molecular diagnostics course (CLSC 5112)
is a 3 credit academic credit course that provides foundation knowledge
in
molecular biology, genetics, and the molecular basis of selected human
diseases. An in-depth review of the theory of molecular techniques such
as
nucleic acid hybridization, amplification, sequencing, and genotyping
is
covered. In addition, the application of these techniques in the
diagnosis,
monitoring, therapeutic decision-making, and prediction of genetic, hematopathological, infectious, and malignant
diseases at
the nucleic acid level is discussed. Additional topics include pharmacogenetics, laboratory practices and
ethical
issues.
Course Dates: Sept. 8, 2009 - Dec. 18, 2009.
