BSHS Coordinated
Dietetics Program
Bachelor
of Science in Health Science:
All
applicants must have successfully passed the
examination for registered dietetic technicians
(DTR) administered by the CDR and have completed
an Associate’s degree in order to be eligible
for the program. The students’ prior coursework
is evaluated and applicable credits will be
transferred towards the 122 credits required
to complete the program. Upon completion of
the program, the student receives a Bachelor
of Science in Health Sciences degree and will
be eligible to take the registration exam for
Registered Dietitians administered by the Commission
on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
UMDNJ
Second Bachelor’s BSHS Coordinated Dietetic
Degree
Registered
Dietetic Technicians, who already have a Bachelor
Degree, UMDNJ-SHRP offers a Second Bachelor’s
Degree in Coordinated Dietetics. Upon completion,
the student is eligible to take the registration
exam for Registered Dietitians administered
by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
This degree allows for the DTR with a four year
degree to transfer in general education, science
and nutrition courses. All degree requirements
must be satisfied, however, there is no TESC
12 credit general education requirement. The
student is required to do a minimum of 35 credits
which include 6 credits of Medical Nutrition
Therapy and 10 credits of internship rotations.
Degree
Completion
Upon
completion of the Program, the student receives
a Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences degree
and will be eligible to take the RD exam administered
by the Committee on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
The advancement to the RD credential will expand
and enhance the individual professionally in
the field of dietetics and nutrition. They will
qualify for positions in food service management
and nutritional care for individuals and community
groups. As Registered Dietitians they will provide
comprehensive nutritional care plans, nutrition
support, conduct individual counseling and community
education, and become an integral member of
the health care team.
Master
of Science in Clinical Nutrition
UMDNJ-SHRP
offers a distance Master’s in Clinical
Nutrition Program exclusively for the Registered
Dietitian. Graduates of the Coordinated Program
who maintained a 3.2 GPA in the nutrition
didactic and rotation courses are accepted into
the program if they complete all application
procedures. These graduates must submit all
application materials except undergraduate transcripts.
A letter must be included with the application
materials stating the graduation date from UMDNJ.
