The Dental Assisting Program at UMDNJ is a ten month certificate program offered in conjunction with Brookdale Community College (BCC), Essex County College (ECC); Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC), Thomas Edison State College (TESC) or Union County College (UCC). Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a joint Certificate in Dental Assisting by Brookdale Community College; Essex County College; Raritan Valley Community College, Thomas Edison State College or Union County College and UMDNJ-SHRP.

Philosophy

The philosophy of the Allied Dental Education faculty is the promotion of teamwork between the two disciplines of Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene. In order to advance this cooperative team philosophy, a core of allied dental courses has been developed.

UMDNJ is the only program in New Jersey that gives students the option to transfer completed core courses (with a grade of "C" or better) into the Dental Hygiene Program, providing Dental Assisting students with a unique career ladder opportunity.

Accreditation

The Dental Assisting program is approved by the New Jersey Department of Higher Education and accredited by the Council on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, the specialized accrediting agency recognized by the Council on Post-secondary Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.
