Dental Hygiene:
Curriculum
The dental hygiene full-time curriculum consists
of four semesters of classroom and clinical
coursework. All classroom coursework is scheduled
during weekdays, but UMDNJ-SHRP offers flexibility
in clinic scheduling, with Saturday and evening
clinics available for the convenience of students
and patients.
As a prerequisite for admission to the program,
students are required to complete six
college level courses (
twenty-two credits) by the application deadline.
(A&P I, A& P II, Microbiology,
Chemistry I, English I, Psychology I)
In addition to the required prerequisite courses,
the following four (4) general education courses:
History/Math ( please refer
to individual requirements for the affiliate
through which the application is submitted);
Public Speaking; Introduction to Sociology;
and English Composition II must be
completed with a grade of "C" or above
PRIOR to the start of the dental
portion of the Program.
General Education Requirements:
may be taken at BCC, ECC, RVCC, TESC and UCC
(or another college, as long as residency
requirements for the School of application have
been met).
Additional general education courses
beyond required prerequisites courses.

The nature of dental courses may require students
to act as dental service providers and patients
with fellow students.
