The nurse-midwives at UMDNJ , practice in two locations: Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark and St Joseph Wayne Hospital in Wayne. They provide care to all women of all ages, during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum. Gynecological follow up is offered for the entire life span. Having your baby with a nurse-midwife is a very special experience. You will be assisted in making important decisions as to what is best for you, your baby and your family. Nurse-midwives like to allow enough time in a visit to become acquainted with your entire health status, past and present, your life style, nutrition habits, family life. They are very interested in meeting the people that are important to you, and to help you discuss the type of birth experience that best suits you. The nurse-midwife will also help you learn about baby care, breastfeeding, and will offer constant support during the months after the baby is born. How to register with a nurse-midwife: Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is located on Lyons Ave, a few blocks South of Route 78. There is a parking garage and the women clinic is located on Lyons Ave, in the new building across the main hospital. There is also an office located in the main building, on the second floor. It is best to call the midwife directly and make your appointment through 973-312-5017 . The nurse-midwives see only their own patients, so there is time allowed for a relaxed and thorough prenatal visit. The nurse-midwife will care for you and assist you in maximizing your health during this very normal time of your life. If, however, there is a need to consult with a physician, Beth Israel is an accredited educational program with obstetrician/gynecologist and a perinatologist on duty. After the baby is born, and for the months or years after, the nurse-midwives will see you for your annual health check up and will perform all the necessary routine tests. The nurse-midwifery practice accepts most major HMO reimbursements. St-Joseph Wayne Hospital is located on rolling hills, adjacent to William Paterson College in Wayne NJ. The maternity unit is friendly and intimate, and the nursing care is well trained in all areas of mother and baby care. Prenatal care for the Wayne General Hospital is offered in Paterson, at the Family Health Clinic. Other locations for prenatal care can also be arranged, for convenience.
