Clinical Education

The clinical education program for physical therapy students is designed to parallel and enrich coursework. It offers a practical, hands-on experience for graduate students to apply academic knowledge to the everyday world and focuses on providing each student with supervised practice opportunities in a variety of clinical environments. Four full-time clinical experiences for a total of 38 weeks in clinical education are required. The DPT Program maintains affiliation agreements with over 300 clinical facilities throughout the country. Most clinical affiliation sites are located in central and southern New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.

Clinical placement is based upon the student's educational and clinical needs, clinical site availability and lottery selection. Physical therapy students are responsible for costs incurred during clinical affiliations, including travel and living expenses.

The clinical education curriculum link provides information about the clinical education courses. It is password protected and accessible by current students and clinical faculty only. Included are the course syllabi, clinical objectives and other information pertinent to the clinical education portion of the curriculum.

Student Immunization and Health Requirements

Acceptance into the DPT Program is contingent  upon the continued mental and physical well being of the student and the student's demonstrated ability to complete the program of study successfully. As part of the admission process, students are required to compete the health and immunization requirements of both UMDNJ and Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Graduate School – Camden.. In order to determine the student's standing, the School reserves the right to require a student to undergo mental and physical examinations to evaluate fitness for continued studies after acceptance and throughout the student's matriculation at the School. Such evaluation shall, in most cases, be conducted external to the University's facilities and programs. This link provides current and interested students information about medical immunization requirements by both universities.

All students are responsible to comply with these requirements from both universities.
