Graduate Certificate

Graduate Certificate in Psychiatric Rehabilitation Web Based:

If you are unsure if you want to pursue the full master’s degree in psychiatric rehabilitation at this time, or if you already have a master’s degree and are interested in specific coursework in psychiatric rehabilitation but not in enrolling for another master’s degree, you may wish to enroll in the 12-credit Graduate Certificate in Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Courses completed with a grade of “C” or better may be applied to the Master of Science in Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Leadership Track.

The certificate curriculum consists of the following:

REQUIRED COURSES

PSRT 5101 Seminar in Principles and Practices of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Introduction to the philosophical and empirical bases of psychiatric rehabilitation, including an overview of programming models, service system issues, current research in psychopathology, its treatment and rehabilitation. Web-based - 3 credits

PSRT 5051 Seminar in Evidence-based and Emerging Practices Introduction to the services and techniques used  in  psychiatric rehabilitation  with specific outcomes supported by empirical evidence. Also examined:  how a service becomes an evidence-based practice (EBP); how services are assessed with respect to the EBP model; and, services that are evolving into new EBPs. 
Web-based - 3 credits

PSRT 4015 Wellness & Recovery   Wellness and Recovery concepts are emerging as important frameworks for understanding, coping with and moving beyond illness, injury, loss, or trauma.  Psychiatric Rehabilitation services are increasingly incorporating these concepts as a means of empowering people to gain understanding of their experiences in the healthcare system and to take responsibility for their own well-being. This course is designed to introduce the concepts of wellness and recovery and methods for facilitating the processes of self-discovery, self-renewal, and transformation.
Web-based - 3 credits

ELECTIVE: By advisement, any other PSRT 4000 or 5000 level course  Topics  include  addictions,  family  interventions,  program  administration  or  vocational rehabilitation. Web or classroom based – 3 credits
