Health Sciences Careers
Program
Introduction
"What
do I want to do when I graduate?" is a
question most high school students face at one
time or the other. And for some, the UMDNJ-School
of Health Related Professions'(SHRP) Health
Science Careers program helps answer that question.

The
Health Science Careers program enables juniors
and seniors to earn up to 22 college credits
in preparation for a career in a health field.
It is a program that occurs between high schools
and UMDNJ-SHRP and it is part of the regular
high school day at each individual high school.
The program held its sixteenth and largest
annual Student Recognition Ceremony on May 27, 2009 at the SHRP campus in Scotch Plains. Suzanne D'Anna, MS., Health Science Careers Program Director and Julie O'Sullivan Maillet,
Ph.D.,RD, Interim Dean welcomed 706 students
from 43 high schools throughout New Jersey.
All 706 students were awarded a Certificate
for Participation in the Health Science Careers
program. Two students from each high school
who achieved academic excellence were also awarded
Certificates for Academic Excellence. Julie O'Sullivan Maillet,
Ph.D.,RD, Interim Dean at SHRP spoke
addressing a wide range of topics, including
the demand for professionals in more than 200
health care fields.

Health Science Careers College Fair 2008
On October 21, 2008 UMDNJ-SHRP hosted our 10th
Annual Health Science Careers College fair at the New Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ.
We showcased many of New Jersey's colleges and universities who have health related programs
as well as all of our SHRP programs. Over 525 students attended, and were able to
visit the museum as well. As always the event
was well received and lots of fun.
Students
had the opportunity to perform ultrasound examinations on graduate
students, (below)

practice dental assisting skills, and participate
in blood pressure and cholesterol screenings
as well as obtain information about a variety
of health related careers.

Save November 20, 2009 for our next annual Health Science Careers College Fair. It will be held again at the Liberty Science Center. Please call 908-889-2434 for more information.
