Motor Imagery and Mental Practice
We are studying mental imagery and mental practice from a variety
of perspectives. First we seek to characterize the cortical representations
of motor imagery for healthy individuals and compare it to those
with individuals post-stroke. Ultimately we are interested in identifying
for which sub-set of individuals post-stroke will mental practice
be a useful intervention. Studies of upper and lower extremity use
are being performed.
Second, we are also using mental practice to improve motor performance
for healthy individuals and for individuals post-stroke. Using behavioral
and brain imaging measures we are correlating behavioral recovery
with cortical re-organization. Some of these studies are in collaboration
with Ruth Dickstein at Haifa University.
