George H. Brice, Jr., MSW, is an Instructor in the Integrated Employment Institute (IEI) within the Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation of UMDNJ-SHRP where he contributes to the Institute’s training and consultation services. Mr. Brice earned two Associate degrees from Burlington County Community College (Criminal Justice degree in 1985 and Psychology degree in 1991) as well as a Bachelors in Social Work in 1997 and Masters in Social Work in 1999 both from Rutgers University in Camden. Mr. Brice’s accomplishments include working as a 9/11 Crisis Counselor at New Jersey’s Liberty State Park and New York City’s ground zero; serving as Co-Chair of New Jersey Governor Codey's Mental Health Task Force; a member of both the Treatment/Wellness & Recovery and Rehabilitation and Employment subcommittees. Mr. Brice was appointed as a member of the Governor’s Council on Stigma and currently holds the position of Co-Chair of this Council.  He is a former certified police instructor, educating law enforcement about persons living with mental illness. Furthermore, Mr. Brice was employed with New Jersey’s only consumer run (persons living with mental illness) agency, Collaborative Support Programs of New Jersey, Inc., (CSP-NJ). Mr. Brice worked for CSP-NJ’s Institute for Wellness and Recovery Initiatives (IWRI) as a Wellness and Recovery Life Coach, where he coordinated a peer (persons living with mental illness) delivered wellness model at the five NJ State psychiatric hospitals. Mr. Brice, who is both a recipient and provider of mental health services, has a continued hope and passion that our workforce will soon be culturally competent and skilled in Evidence Based Practices (EBP) and Psychiatric Rehabilitation (PSR). Training and certification focused on psychiatric rehabilitation values, goals, and principles will increase the competency of our workforce so we can effectively empower individuals to become contributing members of society.
