COMING SOON TO IEI - WEB-BASED TRAINING

Next semester (winter/spring 2010), we will be introducing web-based training to our IEI training calendar. To start, we will offer two sessions. The first will be in the partial care series, F1 – Work and Recovery. When you register, you will receive a link to access the on-line course. You will also be sent a post-test and a session evaluation form, both of which need to be completed and returned to receive acknowledgement for completing the online course.

The second session, Assessing and Developing Employment Readiness (Building Self-efficacy and Outcome Expectation), will consist of two parts. Part one will be an enhanced on-line didactic lesson introducing the concept of readiness, readiness factors, the readiness assessment tool, and demonstrations of the use of the tool with persons in recovery. This online session will be a pre-requisite to attend the in-class session. Part two, or the in-class session, will focus on skill building. It will provide trainees the opportunity to practice using the assessment tool and receive feedback on their performance.

PARTIAL CARE PREVOCATIONAL TRAINING SERIES

The Integrated Employment Institute (UMDNJ) and the Career Connection Employment Resource Institute (MHANJ) have jointly developed a training curriculum that meets the staff training requirement set forth in the NJ regulations for partial care settings regarding the delivery of prevocational services. Individuals working in the partial care setting should attend these sessions in the order in which they are scheduled. The complete series comprises a total of 12 modules. This semester we will offer the two prerequisite sessions (F1 and F2) as well as the second half of the series.

Readiness is defined as interest in and willingness to engage in a process toward the accomplishment of a goal. This session will review the purpose of readiness assessment, identify and discuss the factors associated with readiness, present the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Readiness Determination Profile (PRRDP), a semi-structured interview tool to assess readiness, provide participants the opportunity to practice using the assessment tool, and explore strategies for developing and increasing readiness related to employment goals based on PRRDP assessment results.  NOTE:  See information below on special follow-up session in December.

Creating a Mental Health Friendly Work Environment

Mental illnesses are surprisingly common - they affect almost every American family. Research suggests that nearly a quarter of the U.S. workforce (28 million workers ages 18-54) experience a mental health or substance use disorder. The most prevalent illnesses in the workplace include alcohol abuse/dependence, major depression, and social anxiety disorder. This presentation, directed toward employers and employment support agencies, will address the impact of creating a mental health friendly workplace on the well being of employees and the larger organization. Resources and implementation techniques will be discussed to address increasing productivity and motivation, reducing absenteeism, loyalty and retention of valued employees, and improved workplace relations.
